What does Ford need to do so i can add a caravan camera to my existing head unit?

In their recently revised Body Building manual, all the information is located on page 114-116:

Reprogramming of the APIM and the IPMA using the FDRS will be required to allow the IPMA to display the auxiliary rear view camera whilst the vehicle is moving. See your local Ford Dealer or National Sales agent for further information on the APIM reprogramming’

‘Only vehicles with Digital Rear Vision and/or 360 deg Cameras (J3KAH or J3KAR) have the IPMA capability to support aftermarket fitment of an Auxiliary camera (NTSC format)’

They also may not be able to program it to work when you exceed 8-10km/h – please see FAQ for more information.

I have the 5 pin Aupolo plug on my caravan what do i need to source from Safety Dave?

If you have the 5 pin Chrome Aupolo socket on your caravan, you will also need to source some parts directly from Safety Dave as well as purchasing this kit:

I just have the small 4 pin plug on my caravan, do i need anything from Safety Dave?

No, you don’t need anything from Safety Dave, just this kit will suffice. You will plug the 10-metre extension cable straight into your caravan plug.

We’ve created different kits to match various Next Gen Ranger models and existing equipment you may already have. For example, if you already have a caravan camera, you won’t need a full caravan camera kit—just the parts for integration.

Ford’s 24.5 touring pack includes pre-installed wiring under the glove box. If your vehicle has 360° cameras, it likely includes this wiring and a pre-installed trailer camera icon in the software.

For other Next Gen Rangers with Sync 4, there is a plug behind the cluster panel for connecting a trailer camera. If you require this plug, Ford will need to activate the trailer camera function in the head unit.

Yes you can check your vehicle for the wires as they are located underneath your glove box (pictures below):

This will be completely up to the Ford Dealer, some cannot or won’t activate the camera to work when your speed exceeds 8-10km/h.

This doesn’t seem to be an issue with the 24.5 and onward models

We know that it can work at above 10km/h on the MY22-24 models as we have done so with a forscan tool on one of our own vehicles.

If you decide to use a ForScan tool, please be aware that Ford will void your warranty

Our workshop tests show that only CVBS NTSC cameras are compatible with the Ford Factory screen.
