Frequently Asked Questions

If your model is 22-24 with NO 360 degree cameras then yes, Ford will likely need to program your screen.

You can find more information in the Ford Body Equipment Mounting Manual, all the information is located on page 136-140:

“NOTE: Only vehicles with Digital Rear Vision and/or 360 deg Cameras (J3KAH or J3KAR) have the IPMA capability to support aftermarket fitment of an Auxiliary camera (NTSC format).
NOTE: Reprogramming of the APIM and the IPMA using the FDRS will be required to allow the IPMA to display the auxiliary rear view camera whilst the
vehicle is moving. See your local Ford Dealer or National Sales agent for further information on the APIM reprogramming”

If your model is 24.5-25 with NO 360 degree cameras, you should be ok. You will still need to use the cluster plug but your screen should already be programmed for the AUX camera.

Please confirm with your Ford Dealer if you are unsure.

No, your screen is already ready for an AUX camera – no reprogramming required as per the Body Equipment Mounting Manual:

MY24.5 onwards vehicles built with 360 deg Camera (J3KAH) have auxiliary camera blunt cut wires taped back against the harness behind the glovebox near the firewall. There are four labelled
wires:

  •  AUX_CAMERA VIDEO (+)
  • AUX_CAMERA VIDEO (-)
  • POWER (+)
  • GROUND (-)

The Aux Camera button should already be visible in the Camera drop-down of the Sync screen on these vehicles. Earlier build vehicles will require this to be enabled by a Ford Dealer via the “Disable/Enable Trailer Parking Aid Camera” tool in FDRS.

We’ve created different kits to match various Next Gen Ranger models and existing equipment you may already have. For example, if you already have a caravan camera, you won’t need a full caravan camera kit—just the parts for integration.

Blunt Cut Wires

MY24.5 onwards vehicles built with 360 deg
Camera (J3KAH) have auxiliary camera blunt cut
wires taped back against the harness behind the
glovebox near the firewall.

Cluster Plug

For other Next Gen Rangers with Sync 4, there is a plug behind the cluster panel for connecting a trailer camera. If you require this plug, Ford will need to activate the trailer camera function in the head unit.

Cab Chassis models not compatible

In their recently revised Body Equipment Mounting Manual, all the information is located on page 136-140:

See your local Ford Dealer or National Sales agent for further information on the APIM reprogramming

This depends on your vehicle’s setup and the type of interface you have.

  • If your vehicle has pre-installed camera wiring and Ford did not update the IPMA module, you should be able to view the caravan camera at any time, regardless of your speed.

  • If your screen looks like Interface 1, the caravan camera will only display when reversing or driving under 8 km/h. Unfortunately, this can’t be changed with a Forscan tool.

  • If your screen looks like Interface 2, it depends on how Ford updated your IPMA module when activating the AUX camera (this excludes vehicles with the pre-installed wiring).

    • Some vehicles may allow viewing the caravan camera above 8 km/h.

    • Others may restrict it to reverse or under 8 km/h.

    • A Forscan tool can change this, but it is at your own risk and may void your Ford warranty.

We’ve provided images below to help you identify which interface you have.

Our workshop tests show that only CVBS NTSC cameras are compatible with the Ford Factory screen.

If you have the 5 pin Chrome Aupolo socket on your caravan, you will also need to source some parts directly from Safety Dave as well as purchasing this kit:

No, you don’t need anything from Safety Dave, just this kit will suffice. You will plug the 10-metre extension cable straight into your caravan plug.

Safety Dave began supplying AHD cameras in January 2023.
If your caravan was delivered after this date—or you purchased a Safety Dave camera kit after January 2023—there’s a high chance your camera is AHD. You can also check the camera itself, as most AHD models will have a sticker labeled “AHD.”.

Take a photo of your caravan camera and the plug on your A-frame or drawbar. Text it to us at 0483 930 453, and we’ll assess it and give you advice on compatibility.
