My Ranger/Everest is 2022-2024 with NO 360 degree cameras. Will Ford need to program my screen?
Yes, Ford will likely need to program your screen. As per the Ford Body Equipment Mounting Manual (pages 136-140), only vehicles with Digital Rear Vision and/or 360 degree cameras have the IPMA capability to support aftermarket fitment of an auxiliary camera. Reprogramming of the APIM and IPMA using FDRS will be required. See your local Ford Dealer or National Sales Agent for further information.
My Ranger/Everest is 2024.5-2025 with NO 360 degree cameras. Will Ford need to program my screen?
You should be OK. From MY24.5 onwards, screens should already be programmed for the AUX camera, however you will still need to use the cluster plug. We recommend confirming with your Ford Dealer if you are unsure.
My Ranger/Everest is 2024.5-2025 with 360 degree cameras. Will Ford need to program my screen?
No, your screen is already ready for an AUX camera — no reprogramming required. As per the Ford Body Equipment Mounting Manual, MY24.5 onwards vehicles built with 360 degree cameras (J3KAH) have auxiliary camera blunt cut wires already taped back against the harness behind the glovebox near the firewall. The four labelled wires are:
- AUX_CAMERA VIDEO (+)
- AUX_CAMERA VIDEO (-)
- POWER (+)
- GROUND (-)
The AUX Camera button should already be visible in the Camera drop-down on your Sync screen. On earlier build vehicles this will need to be enabled by a Ford Dealer via the "Disable/Enable Trailer Parking Aid Camera" tool in FDRS.
I've spoken to Ford and they have no idea what I'm talking about. What do I do?
This is more common than you'd think. The Ford Body Equipment Mounting Manual (pages 136-140) has all the information your dealer needs. We recommend printing or saving the relevant pages and taking them to your dealer appointment to save time.
Can I view the caravan camera while driving?
This depends on your vehicle's setup and interface type.
- Pre-installed camera wiring (no IPMA update) — you should be able to view the caravan camera at any time regardless of speed
- Interface 1 — the camera will only display when reversing or driving under 8 km/h. Unfortunately this cannot be changed with a Forscan tool
- Interface 2 — this depends on how Ford updated your IPMA module when activating the AUX camera. Some vehicles may allow viewing above 8 km/h, others may restrict it to reverse or under 8 km/h. A Forscan tool can change this but is done at your own risk and may affect your Ford warranty
Why do I need a specific camera format?
Our workshop testing confirms that only CVBS NTSC format cameras are compatible with the Ford factory screen.
Can I install this myself?
Yes, these kits are reasonably DIY friendly and don't require heavy hardwiring. That said, a basic understanding of car electrics is helpful. If you're not confident, we recommend having a qualified auto electrician do the install.
Will this affect my factory warranty?
Dealers may advise that fitting aftermarket accessories affects your factory warranty, however under Australian Consumer Law they cannot void your entire warranty — only claims directly related to the aftermarket fitment. We recommend checking with your dealer before purchasing if this is a concern.
Can I integrate a second camera or a dual camera?
We can build a custom integration module to accommodate two cameras. Get in touch with us to discuss this option.
How long does installation take?
This depends on your existing setup. A full installation including the caravan side takes approximately 4 hours. If the caravan camera is already installed, allow around 2 hours for the car side only.
What if my Ford model isn't listed?
Get in touch with us and we'll do our best to help you find the right solution for your vehicle.
